My fiancé Michael’s new job was supposed to start in June 2025, so we went down to Torino to get him settled into the apartment and for me to have a holiday here. We arrived May 17th, and it was a long day, let me tell you! We were at the airport at six in the morning, went from Düsseldorf to Frankfurt, from Frankfurt to Torino and arrived at around 2.30 in the afternoon.

The alps from the plane

Our friends picked us up at the airport and drove us straight to the rental agency, where our landlord was waiting. An hour and a half later, the paperwork was done (the agent was very, very thorough) and we walked to our new apartment! It was great, a big space with nice furniture and everything we needed, five minutes from the river and five minutes to the metro and the mall. Just the balcony, as it is in the first floor, was not so great (spoiler alert: this will change soon with our new place!).

After a quick check – what do we need? – we went for something to eat in the food court of the mall, then for the basic groceries. You wouldn’t know how much that entails, from real food to oil, spices, garbage bags and so on. Then we went to Ikea, as we needed some basic stuff like bed linen or dish towels. You can only take so many things on a plane!

My first pizza in Torino

When we arrived back, it was late in the evening. We unpacked the things we needed, made the bed, tired, but still too excited to sleep. So we stretched out our exhausted bodies on the balcony, watched some Eurovision Song Contest on the phone, discussed this very eventful day and soon went for a deep, deep sleep awaiting the adventures to come!
